Antique 1878 Handwritten Manuscript Drawing Sketchbook Art Journal Lucas Baker

A fascinating handwritten art education journal and sketchbook kept by Listed American Artist and author of The Science Of Model and Object Drawing , Lucas Lee Baker. This journal comes from a large collection of journals and papers belonging to the Harvard graduate and professor and the first page reads Lucas Baker Cambridge MA 1879. This journal was compiled while Baker was a student at Harvard and contains dozens of fascinating original pencil sketches, pages and pages of discourse on art philosophy that Baker notated from various professors and his own mind.

Also within this journal is the original handwritten outline of Bakers Model and Object Drawing book that was later published in 1883. The book contains 188 pp.

Some drawings and entries are done on only one side of the book so there are some scattered blank pages but for the most part the book contains lost of content and many interesting drawings including plants, people, landscapes, architecture, a fishing boat captain, an American Eagle and more! There are also some entries for home remedies including how to cure boils! In Very Good condition with gentle exterior wear.

The binding remains strong and tight and all pages are secured firmly. The text block is in Good condition with toning and some staining near the rear.

Primarily done in pencil but all entries and drawings are bright and legible. Measures 8 1/2 x 5 7/8 x 1/2 thick.
