Nesbit - Fear - Stanley Paul & Co. London, Stanley Paul & Co.

A wonderful association copy, presented by the author to her first son, Paul Bland. The inscription reads thus: To Paul Bland, to \ whom this book \ was dedicated and \ is dedicated, this \ copy on his birthday, \ from E.

Nesbit, his \ mother, who wrote \ the book \ June 28, 1910. Nesbit had a unfortunate marriage to Hubert Bland, though three children were borne of it. This would've been for his 30th birthday; he committed suicide another thirty years later, after a depression, thought in part to come from the fractured homelife and his father.

Nesbit's most famous work, The Railway Children, was dedicated to Paul. The book itself is in decent shape with a tear to the cloth at the head of the spine and pulling all along, until separating a little at the bottom, the spine tips are bumped and rubbed. Internally, very good with a few signs of ageing and some spots of foxing. Overall a presentable copy with a wonderful and important association. The book itself is a collection of weird tales, with a good dose of the supernatural.
