On offer a very scarce SIGNED first edition AND first printing of' The Day of the Jackal' by Frederick Forsyth , published by Hutchinson in 1971. Condition: something between good plus and very good minus. The page block edges are slightly foxed. There is a visible bump to the top from board. However, very scarce signed especially with this provenance!Provenance of the signature : The book is signed and inscribed to the title page. The book stems from the well-known collection of Dr Philip Murray who, during his active years as a collector, gathered a collection of over 2,000 first editions. Murray authored a book titled'The Adventures of a Book Collector' where he gives testimony how he obtained many of the rare signatures. Mostly, as in this case, he sent the books to the authors, and then received the books back duly signed. The picture of the correspondence letters seen on the last picture establish the provenance of the signature.
The signed letters stay with me, although on request I can make you a copy of one of those letters. This debut novel was adapted for cinema in 1973. The book is one of the most read and influential thrillers of all time. Signed copies are quite rare. Usually dealers offer a first edition with a book plate laid in.
