Directly Signed & Inscribed By The Author. This is a Very Good example in a Good unclipped First Issue DJ and it has been Signed by the author.
With this being just the authors fourth book and the one after'The Spy Who Came In From The Cold' this is certainly one for the collectors out there and would make a valuable addition to any collection. The book is bound in the original black boards with bright silver titles to the spine. Perfectly square, sharp corners an no marks to be seen. Internally the book is again impressive with no inscription or previous owner names etc.
The ffep has a few faint marks and the outer page block is a little grubby else clean and bright throughout. The book has been SIGNED directly to the half title page by Le Carre with best wishes giving a nice example of not only his signature but also his hand writing which has remained consistent over the years.Flatsigned examples of his earlier books are highly sought after and increasingly collectable as many that turn up have bookplates stuck in etc. First published in 1965 to the verso of the main title page showing this to be the true First Edition as called for. This title was later made into a film in 1969 and with the BBC set to release a new drama of the book before this one interest is sure to yet again peak. The dust jacket is the correct First Edition First Issue belonging to the book. This jacket is notorious for suffering bleaching so i would describe this one as a good+ example. It has sun faded to the spine as most do but in the main it has held onto its colour. It remains unclipped and presents as quite clean with one or two small splits.
Although ideally it would be nice to have a perfect jacket the real value lies in the Signature so this one although not to bad could be upgraded at a later date. Overall a real collector / enthusiasts piece and a great enhancment for any collection. Please take some time to view my other items as i have listed a number of very scarce and collectable book covering many genres.
