Roderick L. Haig-BrownThe Western Angler, Two Volume, Signed First Edition 1939

This SIGNED, Rare First Edition of THE WESTERN ANGLER, by Roderick L. Haig-Brown is number 349 out of only 950 published in 1939. Also, both of the two volumes have Mr.

Haig-Browns signature: Volume 1 has a short inscription to a resident of Washington State, a John Davis of Bainbridge Island, which is west of, and a short ferry boat ride across from downtown Seattle. Volume II has also has Mr. Haig-Brown's signature, under the handwritten, For John Davis. The 1939 1st Edition/1st Printing of "THE WESTERN ANGLER" was published by The Derrydale Press. Only 950 copies of this book were published in the 1st edition. They were all hand numbered. What makes this set even more interesting it that includes the large fold-out map that was said to be published only in the first 300 copies of this book. But here is # 349 with a fold-out map. Which is somewhat wrinkled in the bottom right-hand corner, with a slight tear: see photo. Was this a special book with the map inclusion for John Davis? This is wonderful and gorgeous two volume work on fishing in Western North America, specifically on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada.

It is an invaluable reference on west coast salmon and trout. With sections on the trout, salmon and other game fishes of British Columbia; lakes & streams of the interior of the provinces and coastal trout; winter & summer steelhead, migratory cutthroat trout and the rainbow trout fishery. Both volumes have many Beautiful Color Plate Illustrations by E. Logier, and numerous technical drawings of, for example, young salmon species and details of a trout's anatomy; and there are plentiful black and white photos of fishermen. Rivers and lakes, and of the fishing environment of Vancouver Island.

Both volumes are in very good condition. Very Light shelf wear to the front and back covers. A little "bump, " about an inch long at the top, left-side of the front cover of Volume I, with a little bit of darkening along the mid section, near the. The boards are straight and clean.

The spines, bindings, and pages are all very tight. There is a small "pinkish" marks through the sixth page, which seems to be bleeding from the DERRYDALE PRESS logo on the title page (5) which is printed in red.

As mentioned before, there is a very small tear in the fold-out map. There is no writing, except the two inscriptions and signatures of Mr. Please review all photos for an idea of the condition. You can request additional photos. If sent outside of the U.
