The front free endpaper is personalised, written in ink pin. We haven't been able to identify "Gwen" so cannot say what was her connection to the author, but the nature of the message suggests quite a close relationship, perhaps Gwen was the encouragement Phyllis needed to write her book? It is also uncommon to find Phyllis signing her books with a shortened'pet' name, Phil.

Small retailer's sticker on the back of the front board for Claude Gill Books, 461-3 Oxford Street, London. Some discolouration and staining of the dustjacket - looks to have had a plastic wrap at some time which has had sticky tape which caused additional marks on the front two blank pages and the rear two blank pages. The dustjacket has some small shelf wear tears at the top and bottom of the spine, and some creasing. Green cloth covered boards: a light mark across the front board, some fading of the spine and small amount of wear to the cloth at top and bottom of the spine.
