Publisher's presentation copy, inscribed to the recto of the front endpaper, dated 1920. An intriguing anthology of brief biographies on eminent contemporary literary figures, including Oscar Wilde, Robert Browning, Guy de Maupassant, Swinburne, and more.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and five plates. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities.

Very light rubbing to the joints. A few very light marks to the cloth. Front hinge is a little strained but remains firm, rear hinge is starting but firm. Publisher's pencil inscription to the recto of the front endpaper.

Pages are bright and clean. Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy. Some more serious faults as will. Be described in the condition report under'condition. Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair. As with good only above but with other faults.
