MacKinlay Kantor was an American journalist, novelist and screenwriter who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1956 for his novel,'Andersonville'. Several of his works are either set during or around the period of the American Civil War. This mid-western tale tells of a mysterious drummer boy from Holly Springs, who arrives in the town of Plattville stating he was ordered to beat the long roll.
