With a postcard addressed to the author's friend'Clive', whom this work was gifted to, from his friend, Sir Christopher Lever, thanking Clive for lending him the book and discussing his experiences with the Purple Emperor butterfly.
Christopher Lever was a zoologist and author of works on nature. Illustrated with a full colour frontispiece and 15 monochrome and colour plates. In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper.
This work was written as a collaboration between I. Stockley and provides a comprehensive monograph on the Purple Emperor butterfly. The work consists of a collection of papers from the three authors on the butterfly in focus and is accompanied by photographic plates taken by G.
Hyde including portraits of the authors. Externally lovely with only slight bumping to the tail of the spine and to the extremities of the boards. Ink inscription by the author to front free endpaper with only a very minor mark to the front pastedown. The wrap is generally smart with minor chipping, marks, very minor loss to the tail of the front and very small closed tears to the head and tail of the spine. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages. Overall Condition: Near Fine Very Good. Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear.Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones. Often expected given the age of the book, but still a respectable copy.
Some more serious faults as will. Be described in the condition report under'condition.Good Only - Meaning one or more faults that could really do with repair. As with good only above but with other faults. Leaving a compromised copy even after repair. Really bad and possibly seriously incomplete.
