Agatha Christie's "By the Pricking of My Thumbs" first edition, first printing. Signed and dated by Agatha Christie: "Agatha Christie 1968". Published for The Crime Club by Collins, London in November 1968. 255 pages with no bookplates or any other signatures or inscriptions.

On pages 36 and 37 there are tanned transferences to part of each page from a folded telegram that appears to have rested there since 22nd March 1969! Please see the photos of the pages and the telegram. The telegram was sent from famed movie producer Ray Stark to equally famous Hollywood movie director and producer Herbert Ross at the luxurious Regis Hotel in New York City. The telegram concerns a screenplay by American novelist, screenwriter, playwright and actor Bruce Jay Friedman. The telegram reveals that Stark is clearly very determined that once Herbert Ross has read the screenplay he is to speak to him before he calls Bruce Friedman! The notes written on this telegram (presumably by Herbert Ross) are very interesting: Pricking of Thumbs / movie? Talk to A Christie / who? / rights details and some doodles. This is a particularly interesting choice of Christie's novels to decide to make into a Hollywood movie. Herbert Ross clearly enjoyed his murder mysteries, for example a few years later he directed mystery thriller "The Last of Sheila" in 1973 which was written directly for the screen by Anthony Perkins and Stephen Sondheim. The movie was inspired by a series of elaborate, real-life scavenger hunts Sondheim and Perkins arranged for their show business friends in Manhattan in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Herbert Ross took part in these with his wife Norma.

I have conducted some research and through this'Agatha Christie Limited' put me in touch with a recently published Christie author who expressed an interest to publish this finding in his book if it receives a revised edition in the future. Unclipped first issue dust jacket priced at 21s net.

The dust jacket has excellent vibrant colour with some small marks and closed tears on the front cover. The spine of the DJ is slightly sun-faded. DJ now comes in a new, clear, removable Brodart dust jacket protector.

There is a small thin red mark (approx 2 long) on the rear end paper of this book. Feel free to message with any questions.
