Compared by the publisher to Waugh's'Black Mischief', Theroux's novel was described as a'tale of terror and cruelty' by Laurence Lafore in The New York Times.

The novel follows the headmistress of a girls school in the East African bush, and a feud between her and her fellow teachers. It is inspired by the author's first wife, who taught at a girls' school in Kenya. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper.

Externally, excellent, but with minor bump to back strip tail. Flat signed to title page. Overall Condition: Fine Very Good Indeed.
