THE GRIMOIRE OF THE GOLDEN TOAD. A Mystery-Text Serving to Reveal the Arcana of Sabatraxas, Being An Exposition of the Antient Wicce-craft Initiation into the Mysteries of Toadmanship, known to the wise as "The Waters of the Moon". For All who seek the Way of the Lonely Road. Author: CHUMBLEY, Andrew Title: ONE. For All who seek the Way of the Lonely Road Publication: Xoanon.
A privately produced edition made by the author from what appear to be preliminary (or proof) sheets. Larger format than the published book (31 x 21.5 cm, the published book measures just 23.9 x 18.4 cm), bound in plain black cloth, with white paste-downs and black free endpapers front & rear.
Title leaf signed by the author with his magickal name "Alogos" in a fine script, with a large sigil; colophon leaf is marked "manuscript copy" in the author's hand. Additionally, the recto of the black rear flyleaf is elaborately inscribed by the author in gold ink For Simon Kane, with fraternal benediction, Andrew D. " Below this is signed (also in gold ink) "Alogos with an elaborate sigil.
The colophon leaf in this copy is substantially different from the published edition, with no statement of limitation and no publisher's device. Loosely inserted in this copy is a small envelope inscribed "Toadskin" by the author, containing a triangular talisman of the Daimon of the book hand-painted by the author on toad-leather. There is also a large envelope inscribed "Sabatrachion" and sigilised by Chumbley, containing within a printed red'Azha-Sethos-Qayin' card, heavily sigilised on the front by Chumbley, signed on the rear (as "Alogos") with a large sigil. This is the card which carried a calligraphy leaf of the Sabatrachion, the'shadow-grimoire' of the book, but there is no leaf included (presumably as this copy was inscribed and presented by Andrew to the original owner two years after the regular version of the book was published). All components are in fine condition.
A unique copy, and somewhat Legendary. In a conversation with Robert Fitzgerald, he discussed with me how Andrew Chumbley had made this copy specifically for Simon Kane.
At some point, the book was lent to a "friend", who made a photocopy and a PDF file of it, - making this copy the progenitor of all the pirated PDF copies out in the world.
