Annie Ernaux Signed Getting Lost 1st print Nobel Prize Literature winner 2022 PB

A signed 1st printing / 1st edition PBO of the first English translation of this 2001 work from celebrated multi-award winning French writer and literature professor Annie Ernaux. She is perhaps best known in the UK for'The Years' (originally released in France in 2008), which was shortlisted for the 2019 International Booker Prize. On 6 October 2022, Annie Ernaux was announced as the winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize for Literature by the Nobel Academy in Stockholm, the first French woman to win the prize.

Translated from the French by Alison L Strayer. Flat hand signed by Annie Ernaux to a special publisher bookplate which is affixed to the half-title page.

In fine unread condition, paperback original in the usual white french flaps with blue lettering that feature for all of the author's works released by Fitzcarraldo. The signed copies of this book I have (and have had) in stock are signed by the author in pens of various style and colour, so the signature in the book provided may not be the same colour as that shown in this photo. Signed copies of Annie Ernaux books were very uncommon and collectable before she was named as the 2022 Nobel Laureate. Their collectability has now, of course, been significantly enhanced. Is the diary kept by Annie Ernaux during the year and a half she had a secret love affair with a younger, married man, an attaché to the Soviet embassy in Paris. Was based on this affair, but here her writing is immediate and unfiltered. In these diaries it is 1989 and Annie is divorced with two grown sons, living in the suburbs of Paris and nearing fifty. Her lover escapes the city to see her there and Ernaux seems to survive only in expectation of these encounters. She cannot write, she trudges distractedly through her various other commitments in the world, she awaits his next call; she lives merely to feel desire and for the next rendezvous. When he is gone and the moment of desire has faded, she feels that she is a step closer to death. Lauded for her spare prose, Ernaux here removes all artifice, her writing pared down to its most naked and vulnerable. Translated brilliantly for the first time by Alison L.

Is a haunting record of a woman in the grips of love, desire and despair. Multiple items - Please review my other listings to see if there are any other items which are of interest to you.
