In a Summer Season: A Novel. This is a fine ASSOCIATION copy with two AUTHOR SIGNED PRESENTATIONS , with the earliest one, to her father and stepmother, on the front fly leaf:'Oliver and Evelyn, With love f rom Liz' , and th e later one on the title page:'Janet from Liz with love - January 1973'. Loosely inserted is an AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED on a card which has the author's printed married name and address on one side. Although designed to be used as a postcard this has not been posted and was obviously enclosed when presenting this book. Also loosely inserted is a printed card with the author's name and an extract from Homer's Iliad and also a small leaflet of four pages listing books at Reading Public Libraries. Taylor was born in Reading. This is the hardback First American Edition published by The Viking Press, New York in 1961. (Following tradition, and for the sake of clarity, just to say that in my book [idiom intended] First American Edition means the First Impression/Printing of this edition). The covers have severe damp marking extending from the bottom corners, with loss of colour, and loss of cloth at the corners. Generally, and rather surprisingly, a good clean copy internally though half a dozen leaves towards the end have a little marginal loss at the bottom corner.

It's unusual for books to turn up with two author signed presentations. The autograph letter that accompanies this book explains why that is the case here.

Signed or presentation copies of Elizabeth Taylor's books are very hard to find. Elizabeth Taylor was painfully shy and didn't give more than a handful of interviews and neither did she really move in literary circles or attend the sort of events that many other contemporary writers did. Kingsley Amis, who was a great admirer of her work, recalled that she had a. Genuine distaste for any kind of publicity - that rarest of qualities in a writer. Much of Elizabeth Taylor's correspondence was destroyed, as were her instructions, so it is indeed extremely fortunate that this letter has survived.
