SIGNED BY LAWRENCE FERLINGHETTI: HOWL OF THE CENSOR. This is the first edition of this book in hardcover published in 1961 chronicling the trial of Lawrence Ferlinghetti for publishing a book of poetry by Allen Ginsberg (Howl) that at the time was thought to be obscene. Ferlinghetti was acquitted but he could have gone to prison for a long time. This historical event is often considered a pivotal point for the fight against censorship.
Ferlinghetti, sadly passed away on Monday, 22nd of February, but he left a legacy that future generations will study and use as a model. Lawrence Ferlinghetti was one of the last of the great living legends.
He published every Beat writer from Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg on down. He was the first poet laureate of San Francisco. The condition is very good plus.
The text is clean and appears to be unread. Jacket has a mylar covering but I would rate it as very good. There are very short closed tears and small creases in extremities. Over all a very decent copy that should be in every Beat library.NOT a remainder, NOT price-clipped. Spine is solid with lettering intact.
