The experiences of the Americans on K2 in 1953 was recorded in Houston & Bates's classic book K2: The Savage Mountain. This present view-book of the expedition appeared only in France, since the authors' US publisher did not expect the book to sell well in the English-speaking world. This copy was presented by co-author Bob Bates to Betty Lowe, the sister of George Lowe (Everest 1953, Trans-Antarctic expedition 1955-8).
