Cat's Cradle , by Kurt Vonnegut. New York: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1963.
Considered one of Vonnegut's best works, Cat's Cradle is a melange of science fiction, philosophy, anthropology, and postmodern literature, and was published in 1963. This is the "true First" with green boards, light-blue half-taping, green top-staining, and dark-blue cover lettering -- unlike the BOMC club-edition's orange color-scheme. Laid into the book is a bookplate with the typewritten title: KURT VONNEGUT. Beneath which is Vonnegut's distinctive signature, in blue ink. The bookplate is from the estate of Horace "Hal" Kemp, a longtime L.
Based book dealer and collector who haunted Southland book-signing events during the 1980s and 1990s, and amassed a collection of plates signed by famous authors and celebrities, that he never got around to matching to appropriate books. According to notes found with the plates, this one was obtained at a signing Vonnegut did in the L. Area around 1993 or 1994.
It has been fitted with a brand-new facsimile dust jacket that is an exact copy of the 1963 original, save for a slug line reading Facsimile Dust Jackets L. On the top of the inside front flap.
Because of its less-than-mint condition (see notes and pics above), I'm offering this plate-signed True First at a fraction of the price it usually commands from dealers. It is a must-own for Vonnegut fans, or collectors of signed literary Firsts! Format: 5.25 x 8.25 hc w facsimile dust jacket and clear wraps, green boards with blue half-tape, green topstain, First Edition, laid-in bookplate signed by author, 231pp. The item "KURT VONNEGUT SIGNED FIRST EDITION CAT'S CRADLE 1963 Holt Rinehart Winston" is in sale since Tuesday, April 18, 2017.
