By Charles Fort Introduction by Tiffany Thayer Illustrated by Alexander King The book that inspired the Fortean Society inscribed by founder Tiffany Thayer to his father. New York: Claude Kendall, 1931. A well-traveled copy: Good+ with rubbed spine lettering and spine ends worn in a Poor tattered original dust jacket. Inscribed in green ink by novelist Tiffany Thayer on first blank page to his father, notable actor and blackface comedian Elmer E.
He made a habit of dedicating his books to his father; in at least one known case sending the very first copy off the press to him. The company to which he refers would be the Fortean Society, named after this book's author. It was founded by Thayer to celebrate the release of this very book in 1931. Members present at the official founding included Theodore Dreiser, Ben Hect, H.
Mencken, Booth Tarkington and other literary heavyweights. An excellent association that documents the birth of the original anomaly-hunting Fortean Society, which would survive until 1959.
