Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. This unique First Edition, first printing of Crowley's Weird Fiction Masterpiece came from the library of World renowned. Book: Near Fine, publisher's original dark green cloth with gilt titles to the spine, wonderfully preserved thanks to the presence of the wrapper, deep, dark colour, titles are fresh and bright, it is a heavy, quality publication with the lightest shelfware only. Other than some toning to the endpapers the pages are tightly bound and very clean indeed, no marking, inscriptions or notes save Ogdon's bookplate. The Original Dustwrapper was designed by Beresford Egan and is considered one of the very finest examples of Dust Wrapper Art with its beautifully stylised, 1920s design.
The wrapper has undergone some professional restoration around the foot of the spine and to the hinge corners and now presents as a near fine example. Loss to the hinge corners and to the foot of the spine has been meticulously restored using the highest grade Japanese archival tissues, the artwork to the foot of the spine has been skilfully re-applied and re-touched.
An exceptional example of this Iconic title made all the more fascinating for its association to the troubled musical genius that was John Ogdon, who has signed the bookplate.
