OTTO KOISCHWITZ signed book American Nazi Propaganda Broadcaster WW2 Axis Sally
Signed and dedicated by the author to the ffep, and dated 6 April 1932. The author, (Max) Otto Koischwitz, was a naturalized American of German origin who directed and broadcast Nazi propaganda during World War II. Born in Germany in 1902, he taught at Columbia University before becoming an American citizen in 1935. He was initially opposed to Nazi ideology but as the 1930s progressed he began to openly support both Hitler and Nazism. He also worked (and become lovers with) Mildred Gillars, another American broadcasting for the Germans known as Axis Sally.
He toured POW camps and interviewed American soldiers, editing the results to broadcast a falsely sympathetic support for the Nazis. A Columbia grand jury charged his with treason in absentia in 1943 but he died in Berlin-Spandau Hosiptal in 1944. F S Crofts, New York, 1932. First US edition, first printing. Hardback, bound in the original red cloth board with printed aeroplane over rooftops design (repeated to title page), and printed titling to spine.
Koischwitz's Deutsche Fibel is a German reader, and contains a range of writings in German for the student to read through. The book is illustrated with diagrams and photographs to aid reading, and has 25 page vocabulary to the rear. The red cloth boards are rubbed, bumped and dulled with heavy wear to the spine ends. There is another pencil inscription to the ffep as well as the author's.
