S Eliot is undoubtably one of the all-time greats in the world of poetry and theatre, and included amongst his many accolades was the 1948 Nobel Prize in Literature, for his outstanding, pioneer contribution to present-day poetry. "The Cocktail Party" was Eliot's most popular play during his lifetime, and he wrote it the same year when he was awarded the 1948 Nobel Prize in Literature (although the play was officially released and performed in 1949 at the Edinburgh Festival, after which it was published as a standalone book in 1950).

"The Cocktail Party" also received the 1950 Tony Award for Best Play.
