Boldly SIGNED and INSCRIBED on the ffep/first blank page by the celebrated author! SIGNED and INSCRIBED by the great William Peter Batty! Please note there is an additional inscription and signature on the same page! The additional writing is dedicated to the same individual and appears to have been written with the same pen/ink.
Despite our best efforts, however, we have been unable to ascertain, with an acceptable degree of certainty, the identity of the individual who also signed/inscribed the book. Initially, we believed the additional signature/inscription has some importance and we had our thoughts as to who it belonged to. Unfortunately, because we cannot say for certain, we must apply an abundance of caution and assume it is simply the writing of a previous owner.We must proceed under the belief that the other signature/inscription has no significance and adds no monetary value to the book. Once more, we want to reiterate that there is is another inscription and signature present on the same page as the Blatty inscription and signature. We must assume it is simply the writing of a previous owner. A First American Edition/Early Printing. Please remember this is NOT a First Edition/First Printing!
This is an Early Printing of the First Edition. The TRUE First State dust jacket will have the same code of "0571" and the same original price listed but the picture on the rear panel of the dust jacket will show the author holding a cup in his right hand. While this dust jacket does have the correct code and original price listed, it does NOT have the correct picture! Once again, please remember this is NOT the First Edition/First Printing of this title! This rare treasure has some VERY clearly visible wear/age, but is still in Highly Desirable, Highly Collectible condition!
The wear, however, should be carefully examined/considered. The book appears gently read and has no internal writing, no foxing, no remainder marks, no missing pages and is NOT Ex-Libris or a BCE.The binding is holding tight and the pages are still surprisingly crisp and clean! Some general/shelf/age wear along with a noticeable lean/slant, creases/scratches/wear to the spine/corners/cloth boards and marks/wear to the edge/fore pages, NOT affecting the text! Please note the wear on the spine/corners/cloth boards, particularly noticeable near/along the edges and on the front board.
The wear is clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. The original dust jacket is fully intact and NOT price-clipped!Some general/shelf/age wear along with numerous creases, scuffing, scratches and marks.
