The Golfers Alphabet A B Frost First Edition 1898 Signed Letters & Sketch
The Golfer's Alphabet by W. Sutphen and Illustrated by A. Frost 1898, Harper & Brothers With two signed letters from Frost. Book appears to have been a gift to Percy S. Mallett from his son Guy Chandler Mallett Christmas 1898. Attached to the FFEP is a signed letter from A. Attached to the inside of the front board is a June 28, 1898 letter to Frank (Doubleday) thanking him for recommending Mallett.

Signed "Frost" with a sketch of "Clod-Hopper". Percy Mallett was a member of the Marine and Field Club in Brooklyn, and lived in Brooklyn on 85th Street where his property backed up to that of Frank Doubleday, who had just established the Doubleday, McClure publishing firm after working for Scribner's for 18 years. In 1895 Scribner's had published Frost's'Sporting Pictures'. Doubleday was a fellow member of the Marine and Field Club and was an avid golfer who played with Andrew Carnegie and John D.

Front and back boards show wear, especially at corners. First three pages have detached from binding as has the last blank page. There is a bottom edge stain that affects most of the pages but does not affect text or illustrations.

One small corner chip is present and there are closed tears affecting about 7 pages of the latter half of the book - again, not affecting text or illustrations. Please see all scans provided.
