Signed "Frost" with a sketch of "Clod-Hopper". Percy Mallett was a member of the Marine and Field Club in Brooklyn, and lived in Brooklyn on 85th Street where his property backed up to that of Frank Doubleday, who had just established the Doubleday, McClure publishing firm after working for Scribner's for 18 years. In 1895 Scribner's had published Frost's'Sporting Pictures'. Doubleday was a fellow member of the Marine and Field Club and was an avid golfer who played with Andrew Carnegie and John D.
Front and back boards show wear, especially at corners. First three pages have detached from binding as has the last blank page. There is a bottom edge stain that affects most of the pages but does not affect text or illustrations.One small corner chip is present and there are closed tears affecting about 7 pages of the latter half of the book - again, not affecting text or illustrations.
