The Whopper by Denys Watkins-Pitchford ('BB'). Published by London: Ernest Benn Ltd (1967). First edition complete with VG original dust wrapper protected with removable clear Brodart archival cover. SIGNED by the author in his own name and'BB' on the title page.
Illustrated with line drawings by the author. Housed in a custom green lined slipcase. The story of Tigger Thomas and Hoppy Doffton and the extraordinary lengths they go to in their quest to capture an enormous carp called Pickle Barrel. From out of the dark band of water by the island arose the wondrous fish. It did not clear the pond for its weight was too great.
It heaved itself upwards and swooned back with a mighty splash that sent ripples furling across to them. It was Hoppy who was the expert fisherman - even though he was only ten, and one of his legs was in irons. And it was his idea that they should go across to the island where they might have a chance of catching the giant carp that for years had lived in the lake.
Boating on the main lake was strictly forbidden, but that night Hoppy and Tigger set sail in a home-made raft for the island. Needless to say, the expedition did not turn out quite as they expected it would. Scarce in this condition and very special as a signed copy.
