An association copy, signed by Henry Miller one month after publication, inscribed To Norman Douglas from a faithful admirer of his work / Henry V. Miller 10/3/34 / 18 Villa Seurat (XIV) Paris. Bound in contemporary or near-contemporary patterned stamped paper-covered boards with gilt stamped leather title label to spine, housed in red custom chemise slipcase. Front wrap with crab image bound in at front, text block slightly trimmed, and Douglas' ownership stamp to front paste down. Toning to spine and hairline cracks to outer joints. A taboo-breaking predecessor to Miller, Norman Douglas is most often remembered for his novel, South Wind , as well as for his scandalous limericks, which Obelisk reprinted. The first appearance of Miller's legendary novel, exceptionally scarce signed in the year of publication at the Villa Seurat.
