On offer a true UK. First edition AND first printing. Of one of the defining novels of 20th century fiction. By Nobel Prize and Booker Prize winner.
Autograph of William Golding is loosely inserted. It comes with a certificate of authenticity. This is the true first edition published by Faber in 1954 in a first state dust jacket. The first printing had a run of 3,000 copies only. Very few copies with the original dust jacket have survived the passage of time in a decent condition.I have uploaded 12 pictures that show the book from all angles. The board are red and vibrant in the its original colour except a tiny bit on the top of the spine. The book has no inscriptions, no library stamps of any sorts.
The top page block edges are a bit dusty, the other sides of the page block are fine. The dust jacket is NOT price clipped. The spine of the wrapper is a little browned compared to the ordinal colour as seen on the front and back.
There are very minor chips to the edges of the folds where fortifying professional tape is protecting the wrapper from tearing. The dust jack is still taut. This is a scarce book that contributed to Golding winning the Nobel Prize. It is read in schools and a timeless classic and inspiration for generations of aspiring authors (Stephen King named it his number one pick). The first print run was very low and the book appreciates in value annually.
Having done a basic web search it looks like this is the cheapest copy online with the first state wrapper.
